My Little Pony, Well My Sister’s Little Pony Actually
When I was about 8 years old we got a pony, a little white Shetland named Kaneeta. She was actually bought for my sister to ride but really all the kids rode her. My favorite story about Kaneeta is a Christmas story so it seemed fitting to share that story now.
It was Christmas morning and I was around nine or ten years old. It was always so exciting to wake up Christmas morning and see the stockings overflowing and all the presents under the tree including the ones from Santa! Like every other Christmas there was a set order in which we did things. Stockings were always first, followed by a short break where mom and dad could fill up their coffees and then next would come the presents I’ll never forget the excitement on this one particular Christmas as I opened my big red box from Santa. As I ripped the box open, I could see and smell the leather. It wasn’t until I pulled everything out that I realized it was a beautiful, pony size harness made especially for Kaneeta. I really wanted to run outside and try it on her but there was other presents to open still. As we carried on, the next one for me was from my mom and dad. It was a card and inside the card was a note, “you’ll find your present in the shop”. Full of excitement, I ran to the door as fast as I could, pulled on my boots and headed out the door pulling on my coat as I ran. My family was right behind me, eager to see the look on my face. I opened the door and the gift inside was like a fairy tale, my dad had built me a little red sleigh, it looked just like Santa’s! Later on that day, after all the presents were done and we’d all had a chance to have breakfast, the animals included, we hooked Kaneeta up. I’d never driven a horse before so my dad had to teach me. I had to learn how to back her up between the rails, hook up the traces and of course how to use driving reins.
M sleigh had a bench seat made for two, we could squeeze three but only if they were small kids. Over th years we had many, many fun sleigh rides with Kaneeta. We’d dress up in our snow gear, grab a blanket to lie across our legs and off we’d go.
Kaneeta was a trooper, I’ll always remember all the winter fun we had with her but that wasn’t the only fond memories I had of Kaneeta, she was also lots of fun at the Gymkana’s but that’s a story I’ll save for another day.
Merry Christmas Everyone!
